A range of five Botanical Christmas Decorations.

Smooth porcelain discs imprinted with herbs and flowers from our garden here at Blackheath. 

 

As each decoration is individually made and pressed with real flowers there will be changes in each piece or variations in colour, which is indicative of the material and the handmade process. 

Each plant has been chosen for its symbolic meaning.

Peppermint

/ˈpɛpəmɪnt/ The aromatic leaves of a plant of the mint family, or an essential oil obtained from them, used as a flavouring in food. The cultivated Old World plant which yields peppermint leaves or oil. The leaves and flowering tops are used; they are collected as soon as the flowers begin to open and can be dried. A traditional symbol of profound wisdom and virtue.

Heather

/ˈhɛðə/ A purple-flowered Eurasian heath that grows abundantly on moorland and heathland. Many ornamental varieties have been developed. A low, spreading bush, usually with small pink, purple, or white flowers, that grows wild, especially on hills. A traditional symbol of admiration.

Sage

[ seyj ] noun, adjective a herb, Salvia officinalis, whose grayish-green leaves are used in medicine and for seasoning in cookery. A natural antiseptic. When sage is made into a drink using the leaves, it is called the 'thinker's tea,' pagan culture believes in the protective properties of sage. A traditional symbol of profound wisdom.

Lavender

[ lav-uhn-der ] noun, adjective a pale bluish purple. any Old World plant or shrub belonging to the genus Lavandula, of the mint family, especially L. Angustifolia, having spikes of fragrant, pale purple flowers. The dried flowers or other parts of this plant are placed among linen, clothes, etc., for scent or as a preservative. A traditional symbol of Devotion

Rosemary

noun, plural rose·mar·ies. an aromatic herb, Rosmarinus officinalis, of the mint family, native to the Mediterranean region, has leathery, narrow leaves and pale-blue, bell-shaped flowers, used as a seasoning and in perfumery and medicine. Often used to purify air and improve memory. A traditional symbol of remembrance.
